Well, we survived the first day of school, but just barely. Here is the memorable story behind it. It started off riding the bus to school. I got called to sub, and I was going to be at Independence which is Emma's school. Troy got her on the bus. I went down to the kindergarten area to see her as she came in from the bus. She didn't come, didn't come, so I had to head back to the room I was teaching in. The secretary called and said that Emma got dropped off at Liberty Elementary....wrong school! (the bus company's error) So, they brought her to Independence and the secretary stopped by my classroom with Emma to let me know that she had made it. She was totally fine as she went to preschool at Liberty, so that was a familiar place for her. Later in the day I received a call from the secretary at Liberty telling me what had happened and that Emma was fine and didn't get upset throughout the whole thing. During my lunch, I went and sat with her during the end of her lunch, and walked with her back to her class. I give kindergarten teachers a ton of credit in trying to get these 5 and 6 year olds to do things that they don't have much experience with, like don't dump your silverware in the garbage, stand in line, when walking in line, follow the person in front of you, follow directions, and on top of that, children sobbing saying they want their moms or to go home!! At the end of the day, I brought my class out to the bus, and looked to see if Emma was where she was supposed to be and she was. I told her I'd see her in a little bit, as she was being dropped off at Gretchen's with the other kids that go there. I was running a little late, so I called Gretchen to tell her I was on my way. She informed me that Emma didn't get off when she was supposed to, so the bus had to come back and drop her off! We told her that she will ALWAYS get off at Gretchen's with her other friends from daycare, and why she didn't will be a mystery. She was upset when I got to Gretchen's, but Gretchen said that she was running a fever. (100.4) She was
very tired. When Sara (Emma's teacher) came to pick up her daughter Sophie, she said that Emma was pretty quiet the last hour of school. So, I'm guessing tonight will be an early bedtime. She said she had a lot of fun, and enjoyed it. Monday will be better (we hope).
