Montana skiing '08

We set out on a family trip on March 21 to the great state of Montana. It was almost an entire family trip except for Troy, (who didn't want to use vacation days, but really wanted to go), Brody (who I didn't want to take on a nine hour car ride), and Dave and Gunnar. Gunnar got sick the morning we were going to leave. So, John, Linda, Teresa, Riley, Alec, Tori, Emma and I piled into two Suburbans, and headed west. The ride went really well. Thank God for DVD players!! (sorry the pics are so small, I copied them from my Facebook page)

Grandpa, Olivia, Riley, Cole, Alec, Emma, Tori and Grandma.

Cole, Emma and Tori gearing up for a fun day. This was Emma's and my first attempt at downhill skiing. When we first got to the bunny hill, Emma started crying. "It's too bright!" she sobbed. I'm thinking to myself, "This is going to be a long afternoon."

Tara was Emma's personal ski trainer. The first thing Emma wanted to do was ride on the ski lift. (She loves rides.) Tara started her on the bunny hill, and then moved to the bigger hill, Miami Beach. She made Tara nervous as they rode the lift as Emma had no fear and kept leaning over to see how high above the ground they were. Tara skied down backwards each time with Emma. She wished she had a camera with, because Emma would say "Wheeeee!" in her high pitched voice. Thank you Tara for being so patient with her. She had so much fun!!

Tori had a bit of a rough start. She couldn't slow down or stop, so here was one of her crashes. She finally caught on and did fine the rest of the day.

It was a great trip. (other than Teresa getting a crack in the windshield, a flat tire AND a dead battery on their '07 Denali.) The kids had a blast jumping on the trampoline, even when it was 30 degrees outside, riding horse, and looking for Easter eggs. I didn't do so bad skiing. Ok, so I had some crashes, but who doesn't the first time they try something new? It was great to see Tara and Eric's new house, and spend time with family. Hopefully, a new family tradition has been born and everyone can attend next year.
